David Aakre has taught voice and guitar for 30 years. He received his Bachelors degree in Vocal Music Education from Pacific Lutheran University in 1975, and his Masters of Science in Teaching from Portland State University in 1983. His voice students have consistently won or placed at the Oregon State Solo Contest, as well as the NATS Auditions. He has also coached the youngest singer ever to have made the finals of the Pavorotti World Singing Championships. His Concert Choirs at Marshfield High School were honored to be selected to sing as a featured choir at the OMEA State Convention in 1982 and 1988. He has entertained professionally singing and playing guitar at the Portside Restaurant for 15 years. He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). He has served as the Director of Vocal Affairs for the State of Oregon OMEA. He directs the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Choir in Coos Bay and the Gold Coast Chorus (SPEBSQUA) He has adjudicated solo and choir competitions throughout the northwest.
